Masque Milano – Love Kills

“Masque Milano – Möbius Strip Rose.”

*Wikipedia: Moebius strip is a one-sided surface with no boundaries. It looks like an infinite loop. Like a normal loop, an ant crawling along it would never reach an end, but in a normal loop, an ant could only crawl along either the top or the bottom. A Möbius strip has only one side, so an ant crawling along it would wind along both the bottom and the top in a single stretch. A Möbius strip can be constructed by taking a strip of paper, giving it a half twist, then joining the ends together.

For the first 30 years of my life, I fully agreed with the following Coco Chanel quote “A woman should smell like a woman and not like a rose bush”- haunted by the memories of Bulgarian Rose (the only perfume available, as little vials of vile essence, in eastern Europe in my childhood). Once maturity settled in I started to question everything (why? ) and, in time, from my foe, the rose became my favorite flower.

In Love Kills (besides the first Gertrude Stein and Shakespeare associations that spark into connection) Freddie Mercury’s voice takes over everything with the lyrics of this song “Love won’t take no reservations / Love is no square deal /Hey love don’t give no justification /It strikes like cold steel” Like the ant in the Moebius strip exemplification, I find myself on the singular dimension of rose, walking from the fresh, dewy stages of love, to the ardent bloom, to metallic bloody red, to the ennui of dusty patchouli, into oblivion and rose dust, in a never-ending loop that leaves me wanting for more than the small sample that I have.
